Multnomah Falls at Freezing Temperatures

On December 10th (I know I'm behind) the kids and I needed somewhere to go after we dropped Daddy off at the airport. Mike was going to California just for 1 night but the kids, mainly Levi, wasn't taking it so well. On the news the night before Levi saw a picture of Multnomah Falls and it was partially frozen. He really wanted to go see the frozen waterfall so the crazy mom that I am I decided we would do it while Mike was gone. All 3 kids and I went home, got dressed for the freezing temperatures and headed up the gorge.

We stopped at the Women's Forum to take a couple of pictures. You can see that the edges of the Columbia River were frozen. Then we continued on to Crown Point. Makayla and Parker had fallen asleep in the car but Levi wanted to get out and see the river. As I got him out of the car and set him on the ground he grabbed my hand tightly and said, "The winds going to blow me away!" We took a quick picture which as you can see he wouldn't open his eyes for and got right back in the car.

Then we continued on to Multnomah Falls. By the time we got there Makayla had woken up and wanted to go for a walk so we all got out of the car, loaded into the double stroller and walked over to see the falls. I didn't bring gloves for myself or the kids but it was so cold that we grabbed some extra socks we had in the car and put them on our hands. (I think it was 21 degrees in Gresham that day so it was probably even colder up the gorge). It was either socks on the hands or lose some fingers! =) (I took my "gloves" off for just a minute or two to take pictures and my fingers got so cold they felt like they were going to fall off!)

Levi had a great time looking at the signs about fish and really wanted to see some fish in the frozen creek but it just didn't happen. We did however duck into the information center for a few minutes to warm up and Levi was pleased to take his picture with a fish manikin.

It was freezing but we had a lot of fun!
